Ixodes

Species of Ixodes are relatively average in size when compared to the other genera; ranging from 3-4mm in length when unfed.  Their gnathosoma is similar to that of Hyalomma however article ii and iii tends to appear more club like.

Other features seen in Ixodes includes:

  • No ornamentation
  • Eyes absent
  • Festoons absent
  • Anal groove anterior to anus

There are a number of morphological differences between males and females, so for this genera males and females have separate keys:

 1a.)  Scutum covers anterior portion of dorsal surface

1b.)  Scutum covers entire/most of the dorsal surface (conscutum)
